Benefits of WhatsApp for Business & Marketing

In an era when Social Media Marketing is the buzz word and traditional marketing on TV and radio is dying; it has become increasingly hard for businesses to standout with their marketing campaigns. WhatsApp is classified by many experts as a social media and for good reasons too. However, there are some really cool benefits of using WhatsApp as a major part of your brand's marketing campaign.

You can reach your clients and prospects where they spend most of their time online - When marketing to the millennial, it is important to know where they spend most of there time online. With over a billion users (70% of which use it daily) the average WhatsApp user check his/her messages multiple times per day. Back in 2015 when I was doing marketing research in Jamaica, majority of the millennial national representative sample (10% of Jamaica) spend more than 10 hours a day using WhatsApp.

It is easier to build brand awareness - By being up close and personal with your target audience, it is hard for them to not remember you especially if they check your WhatsApp status updates and they gave you the permission to send them broadcasts. Attention is limited and it is getting worst with the noise of the market place, by using WhatsApp in a fun and engaging way, your audience will be more loyal to your brand and also pay more attention.

Follow up with prospective clients easier- By sending a direct message to your potential client, you not only close sales faster but you develop a friend in the process. Brand loyalty becomes easier to achieve as well if your clients feel connected.

Customer Service is more personalImagine being able to resolve an issue with an angry customer before it goes on the major social media platforms. Using WhatsApp for Business, you can connect with each prospect and client in a meaningful way. Hence, WhatsApp can help you minimize negative press while you fix the issue(s) at hand.

Your customer base will get instant updates on promotions and brand news- While news normally travels fast online, it can travel faster on the WhatsApp instant messaging platform. Your audience will be up-to-date with brand news and updates which will be good whenever you want to get your messages out.

You can create chat labels - WhatsApp for business allows you to create chat labels for each person you talk to. Default labels are "new customer, new order, pending payment, paid and order complete". WhatsApp for business also allows you to have two WhatsApp on one phone.

Advance WhatsApp features- WhatsApp for business is more advanced than the normal WhatsApp. It allows you to set opening and closing hours, add your website on the account and even send automatic reply and away messages. These are just few of the features which it has, to know more, I recommend downloading the App.

NB: Marketing on WhatsApp does not give you the permission to spam your clients with promotional info and materials. Again attention is limited and whenever you gain the trust and privilege of your clients, you should treat it with respect. Gain the permission to send your clients and prospects useful information and material that is fun and engaging.

Is WhatsApp Marketing EVEN ETHICAL?

WhatsApp is a powerful marketing tool for Young Entrepreneurs. As mentioned in my previous posts, WhatsApp marketing can provide a lot of benefits to your brand, BUT IS IT EVEN ETHICAL?  Well, there are really a few things that will distinguish an unethical WhatsApp marketing campaign vs an ethical one. The morality of it will be based on usage, however there is a fine line between using it in an unethical manner and using it in an ethical manner. I think first, I should put a few terms into context, especially surrounding marketing to millennials. Selective Attention   - The process of focusing on a particular object in the environment for a certain period of time. Attention is a limited resource, so selective attention allows us to tune out unimportant details and focus on what really matters.     http://bit.ly/2KUq9wV Permission Marketing  - The privilege (not the right) of delivering anticipated, personal and relevant messages to people who ac...
