In the age where factories dominate and capitalism is the order of the day, many business owners use hope marketing to attract clients. There was no system or process to attract new clients, they just go with the flow since they have little to no serious competition.
Demand was high or at least consistent for great products or service. With little to no choice on the client's end, marketers didn't really need to go above and beyond to develop a system for their marketing efforts.
The information age created a shift which gave clients stronger bargaining power. Of course, there are always exceptions to this but the mass of the bargaining power became stronger when potential clients have the option to search around the internet for competitors products and buy the one that best suits their taste.
This information age made it harder for marketers to compete with competitors with only hope marketing even their your product or service was really good. Why? because it goes against the very heart of what makes success "SUCCESS" and that is by creating systems.
Growing up, our schooling was segmented in order for us to get the best out of our learning experience, that was a system. A business is a system which includes various divisions and functions. The stock market or your investment portfolio has systematic properties. Whether you're training for something, analyzing the solar system, the human body, digestion, cells, quantum particles or anything resembles life, you will also find systematic properties.
Co-incidence? I doubt it. Systems work because it put structure to our madness. That's exactly what it will do for your marketing as well. It will help you to understand your clients, the cost to acquire new clients and even what makes them tick.
Now don't get me wrong, systems are different from complex processes. A factory making cars can create a system to make the process more efficient, but if a potential client contact you on facebook for the price of a pound of rice for instance, and you ask that client to send you an email with the request so you can then respond and then request a phone call, then that's more of an unnecessary process than an actual system.
Your marketing system should be able to retarget potential clients that showed interest, but not at the expense of ruin their experience. Remember, they have more choice than ever before.
Marketing systems comes in many shapes, forms and sizes, but they all serve the purpose of attracting new clients to a space where they have more control over the sales process. One such system could even be a sales funnel which has gotten popular among marketers. But it doesn't have to be, as long as you're not using hope marketing anymore, you'll remain competitive in this new era of consumer choices.
